ABOUT THE PROGRAM:

ENUF (originally “Waste Not, Want Not”) began as an event-based food festival focused on fighting food insecurity and reducing waste. It has evolved into a B Corp and cooperative dedicated to providing hands-on education, waste audits, and resource redistribution services across student campuses in Montreal.

WASTE NOT, WANT NOT

The Senneville plots at Morgan Farms include a smaller plot in the Patchwork community, where they grow tomatoes, beans, and peas. In 2024, they expanded to a larger neighboring plot, featuring fresh vegetables, a solar oven, a food forest with fruit trees and bushes, and homes for quails and chickens. Visitors are welcome to explore this unique farming experience on one of the last farmlands on the island!

KEY CHALLENGES: Managing waste at the larger scale, high-traffic university events is a massive challenge
Behavioural change- Shifting the sorting habits of student body require constast and repetitive education

TIMELINE

2016: Started as a five-day food festival, reaching 1,500 people per day.

2017: Signed a three-year contract with the Concordia Student Union and Sustainable Concordia for educational services.

2019: Concordia University provided $15K in funding for #CUcompost Waste Ambassadors to work at campus events.

2020: The group incorporated as a new B Corp, ENUF, to replicate the work done at Concordia in other institutions.

cURRENT SERVICES

Programs:
1. Green Brigades: Team members stand next to waste stations at campus events to help attendees properly sort waste (compost, recycling, trash).

2. Surplus Food Redirect: They coordinate the collection of untouched, surplus food from catered events and ensure it is delivered to community fridges/pantries.

3. Waste Audits & Consulting: They offer waste auditing and composting education services for on-campus groups.

KEY SUCCESSES:

  • Pioneering Campus Model: ENUF successfully transformed the concept of “waste management” from a janitorial task to a high-profile, educational event service, setting a new standard for campus sustainability.
  • Successful Replication: Incorporation as a B Corp in 2020 proved the model’s viability, allowing them to expand the Green Brigade and surplus food services to other student campuses across Montreal.
  • Food Security Impact: Their system successfully closes the food loop by collecting untouched surplus food and redirecting it to campus community fridges, directly reducing both waste and student hunger.
